Troy Gerlt joined the Mount as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in August 2024.
Gerlt comes to Emmitsburg after a lengthy career at Syracuse University, working on the Sports Medicine Staff since 2002. Gerlt was responsible for the comprehensive healthcare of the men’s lacrosse student-athletes at Syracuse University, as well as serving as the rehabilitation coordinator in the university’s Olympic sports athletic training room. He served as an assistant athletic trainer with the Orange football program from 2002-04. Prior to his appointment at Syracuse, he served as an instructor and certified athletic trainer for the Baldwinsville Central School District from 1999-2002. Before that, Gerlt served as a certified athletic trainer at HealthSouth Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic, providing outreach athletic training services to numerous school districts in the Syracuse area, and worked as the Head Athletic Trainer at Lincoln University (Mo.) in 1996.
He holds numerous certifications and memberships in the athletic training field. He is a certified member of the NATA (National Athletic Trainers’ Association), EATA (Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association) and MATA (Maryland Athletic Trainers’ Association) and is also a member of the College Athletic Trainers’ Society (CATS). He is certified in the SASTM (Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) method of Soft Tissue Mobilization, full body certified in ART (Active Release Therapy), Personalized Blood Flow Restriction and is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES).
Gerlt is a 1991 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, earning a teaching degree in Health and Physical Education. He was then awarded a master’s degree by Syracuse University in 1994, while serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Orange.
At the 2005 U.S. Lacrosse National Convention, Gerlt presented on the topic of “Catastrophic Injury Preparedness” and served as an athletic trainer for the 2008 U.S. U-19 Men’s National Team that won gold at the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World Championship in Coquitlam, Canada. He was also an athletic trainer for the U.S. Senior National Team that defeated Canada to win the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship in Manchester, England.
