Emmitsburg, Md. (September 23, 2017) – Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team wrapped up day one of the Mount Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Emmitsburg. Four Mountaineers will play for third place in their respected flights in singles action.
Loyola's Kateri Martin gave Alexa Quintanilla her first loss of the season after Martin defeated Quintanilla 6-2, 0-6, 10-8 in the quarterfinals of flight A. Amanda Lanciano of Loyola took down Hannah Davis 6-4, 6-3. Davis will play for seventh place in the flight A consolation side on the final day of the invitational. Sruthi Kamprath will also play for seventh place after forfeiting due to sickness to Brianna Gibbs of George Mason in the consolation bracket of flight B.
Megan Smith will play for third place in flight C after Kayleigh Hahn from George Mason defeated Smith 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. In the consolation side of flight C, Megan Gamble will play for seventh place after being defeated 6-7(5), 6-4, 10-5 by Loyola's Nicole Eberle. Mount junior, Emma Blake, will play for third place in flight D after being topped 6-2, 6-0 by Hannah Cianciola from George Mason. Sam Barbato will also play for third place but in flight E after being edged 6-2, 6-3 by George Mason's Sutherlyn Brinn.
Quintanilla and Gamble met Davis and Smith in the consolation final in flight A of doubles competition after Quintanilla and Gamble defeated Lee and Gibbs (GM) 6-4, and Davis and Smith topped Agee and Robertson (LOY) 6-3. Quintanilla and Gamble won 6-0 over Davis and Smith in a friendly inter-squad battle. Kamprath and Blake won the consolation side of doubles flight B after blanking Dunbar and Boberic (SIE) 6-3, and Boustany and Granato (LOY) 6-0. In the round robin doubles flight C, Barbato and Cassandra Powell finished with a 2-1 record after defeating Sofia Samra and Alicia Yeag (HCC) 6-2, and Kendall Kutner (LOY) and Julianna Goehner (SIE) 7-5.
The final day of the invitational in Sunday, September 24 and play will begin around 9:00 Am.
