Lewisburg, Pa (September 10, 2017) – Mount St. Mary's University sophomore Alexa Quintanilla captured the top flight singles championship to highlight competition at the Bucknell Women's Tennis Invite this weekend.
Quintanilla defeated Samantha Snyder of Lafayette (7-5, 6-1), Kateri Martin of Loyola (6-0, 6-1) and Nathalie Finch of Howard (6-1, 7-5) to reach the No. 1 singles championship match. Quintanilla then topped Laura Gutierrez of Saint Francis U by a 5-7, 6-4 (10-6) mark in the finals to claim the singles championship.
Mount sophomore Hannah Davis collected a pair of victories to reach the semifinals at the third flight. Davis downed Lafayette's Hayley Mattis (6-0, 6-0) and IUP's Mariana Valezuela (6-3, 2-6, 10-6), before falling to Howard's Yassmine Khiri (2-6, 6-3, 10-7) in the semis.
Emma Blake also captured her first victory of the season, defeating Anavi Arnad of Lafayette in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, at the fourth flight.
At the top flight of doubles, Quintanilla and Megan Gamble earned a 6-2 win over Lafayette's Snyder and Block, and the duo of Davis and Sruthi Kamprath registered a 7-5 win over Lesnick and Conrad of Lafayette.
In No. 2 doubles, Blake and Megan Smith posted a 6-4 victory over Loyola's Boustany and Granato, before falling in the quarterfinals.
The Mount is back in action next weekend for the Towson Invitational from September 15-17.
