September 17, 2019--Juniors Jasmine McCree and Maggie Barron earned Northeast Conference women's soccer weekly awards, announced today by the conference office. McCree was tabbed as the NEC Player of the Week while Barron nabs the NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
McCree was named the NEC Player of the Week after scoring the Mount's goal in a 1-0 victory at American on Sunday afternoon. McCree stole a pass from American's goalkeeper, and then lofted a perfectly placed shot into the upper left corner of the net to give the Mount the lead. It is McCree's first career NEC weekly award. The last Mountaineer to be named NEC Player of the Week was Kayla Hughes on September 25, 2018.
Barron made 12 saves to earn the shutout victory in the Mount's win over American. The junior made nine of her 12 saves in the second half, including a stop on a penalty kick in the 68th minute. It is the third career NEC Defensive Player of the Week award for Barron, who has recorded 22 saves over the past two games.
The Mountaineers open NEC play on Friday night when Saint Francis U visits Waldron Family Stadium for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
