Philadelphia, Pa. (September 8, 2019) --Goalkeeper Maggie Barron made 10 saves, but the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team was clipped at Penn, 1-0, on Sunday at Rhoades Field.
The Quakers (2-1-1) scored the lone goal of the game just 6:52 into the contest when Breukelen Woodward beat Barron with assists by Emily Sands and Paige Howard on the play.
Barron kept the Mountaineers in the game with several fantastic saves, including a pair of diving stops in the secondhalf where she tipped the ball over the cross bar, and one from point blank range. Barron's efforts allowed the Mountaineers a solid chance to tie the score in the second half, but Jaylyn Chandler's shot in the 69th minute was stopped by Ashley Gabor.
Elisabeth Rockhill was dangerous all day for the Mount, posting a pair of shots while Chandler led the team with four shots (two on goal). Penn held a 20-8 shot advantage in the game and a 12-0 edge in corner kicks. Barron made 10 saves for the Mount (0-6) with Gabor posting four for the Quakers.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action next Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game at American. That will be the Mount's final non-conference matchup before heading into Northeast Conference play at home against Saint Francis U on September 20.
