October 16, 2018--Mount St. Mary's sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Barron (Centerville, Va.) has been named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Barron made eight saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half, to lead the Mount to a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart on Sunday.
Barron came up big in the Mount's 1-0 win over Sacred Heart, making eight saves in the 1-0 shutout victory. Her shining moment came 15 minutes into the second half when she stopped an Alex Mesropyan penalty kick to preserve the win. Barron reduced her goals against average to 0.83 on the season with a .840 save percentage. In NEC play, she has allowed just three goals in five starts, posting a 0.55 GAA and a .903 save percentage with a pair of shutouts. Barron is the first Mountaineer to win back-to-back NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors since Rachel Bourne did it in October 2015.
The win moved the Mount into fourth place in the NEC standings with two weeks left in the regular season. The Mount heads to first place Central Connecticut on Friday, October 19, for 6:00 p.m. matchup.
