Women's Soccer Downed at No. 13 Virginia Tech, 4-0

Blacksburg, Va. (August 31, 2012)—Mount St. Mary's lost at No. 13 Virginia Tech, 4-0, on Friday night in women's soccer action.  Freshman Vicky Cocozza made eight first-half saves for the Mountaineers in the loss.

The Hokies (5-0) took the early lead when Katie Yensen headed home a long cross from Ashley Manning 4:29 into the contest.  Kate DeTuro scored in the 32nd minute and Ashley Meier on a header in the 37th minute to put Virginia Tech ahead 3-0 at the half.  Danielle King's goal in the 83rd minute rounded out the scoring in the game.

Freshmen goalkeepers Cocozza and Rachel Bourne split time in goal for the Mount for the third consecutive game.  Cocozza made eight saves while allowing three goals in the first half while Bourne made a pair of saves with one goal allowed in the second half.

Virginia Tech outshot the Mount 29-2 in the game, including 21-1 in the opening half.  Kate Murphy and Jackie Corley each had shots on goal for the Mountaineers.

The Mount is now 0-3 all-time against ranked opponents after tonight's loss.  In 2002, the Mountaineers lost to No. 15 Villanova, 6-0.  The previous season, the Mount lost to No. 20 Maryland, 2-0.

Mount St. Mary's (1-2) returns to action on Friday, September 7, at Saint Peter's.
