Emmitsburg, Md. (July 17, 2012)—Nine home games highlight the 19-game Mount St. Mary's women's soccer schedule, announced today. The Mount opens the 2012 season at home against local rival Towson on Friday, August 24.
The Mount will host Towson on Friday, August 24, at 7:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium in the season opener. The Tigers hold a 14-2 lead in the all-time series. The Mount defeated Towson, 1-0, in 2010 in the last meeting in Emmitsburg.
Mount St. Mary's hosts Rider on Sunday, August 26, at 3:00 p.m. The Mount is 1-0-1 all-time against the Broncs, including a 1-0 overtime win last season.
The Mountaineers then embark on a four-game road trip that starts with the first-ever meeting between the Mound and Virginia Tech on August 31. The Mount then travels to Saint Peter's (Sept. 7), Howard (Sept. 9) and Bucknell (Sept. 11). Last season, the Mount lost 1-0 games to both Saint Peter's and Howard while earning a 0-0 draw with Bucknell.
Mount St. Mary's returns home to face VMI on September 14. The Mount posted a 1-0 win at home in 2010 in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Northeast Conference play begins on Friday, Sept. 21, when the Mount heads to Saint Francis (Pa.). The Red Flash have won six of the past seven meetings in the series with the Mount's win coming in 2009 at home.
The Mount visits Delaware State on September 23. The Mount won the last matchup between the teams, 10-0, in 2005, behind a school-record five goals from Mary Adelsberger. The Mount is 3-0 all-time against the Hornets.
It is a return to NEC play on September 28 when Fairleigh Dickinson visits Waldron Family Stadium for the first game of a season-long four-game homestand. The Mount defeated the Knights, 2-1, last year and holds a 7-4-1 advantage in the all-time series.
The final non-conference game of the season will be September 30 when Navy visits the Mount. The Midshipmen have won all 11 meetings in the series, including a 1-0 victory in 2010 in the last matchup.
Robert Morris (Oct. 5) and Sacred Heart (Oct. 7) round out the homestand. The Mount is 11-8-2 all-time against the Colonials, but Robert Morris has won the last five matchups, including a 3-0 win last year. Sacred Heart has won three in a row against the Mount, including the past three meetings.
Mount St. Mary's heads back on the road for four games, including Central Connecticut State (Oct. 12), Quinnipiac (Oct. 14), LIU Brooklyn (Oct. 19) and Wagner (Oct. 21). Last year, the Mount snapped a nine-game losing streak against CCSU with a 1-0 home win. The Mount also defeated Quinnipiac (4-1) and LIU Brooklyn (1-0) at home as well. Sadie Winship's second-half goal lifted the Mount to its first win since 2001 over LIU. The Mount is 11-8-0 all-time against Wagner with seven of the past eight matchups being decided by one goal.
The Mount concludes the regular season with home games against Bryant (Oct. 26) and Monmouth (Oct. 28). The Mount is 2-1 all-time against Bryant with all three games being decided by the score of 2-1. Monmouth holds a 13-3-2 lead in the all-time series with the Mount, including a 4-0 win last season.
Last year, the Mount finished 6-10-2 overall and 4-6-0 in the Northeast Conference. The Mount was in playoff contention heading into the final weekend of NEC play.
