Somerset, N.J. (June 13, 2019) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse goalie Jillian Petito has been named a recipient of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Scholar-Athlete Award, as announced by the league on Thursday.
The Scholar-Athlete Award is handed out to one student-athlete in each league-sponsored sport. All winners must have compiled a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.
Petito graduated from the Mount in May with a degree in accounting and a cumulative GPA of 3.68. On the field, Petito posted another dominating season between the pipes, as she led the nation in save percentage (.564) for the second consecutive year while also leading the country in goals against average (7.14). The stellar campaign earned Petito All-NEC and All-ECAC First Team honors. The Ocean City, Maryland product held opponents to single-digit goals in 15 of 19 games on the year, and was pivotal to the Mount's defensive unit that led the country in scoring defense. Petito sits in second place on the Mount's all-time list for career wins (30) and is third in saves (504).
