Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Central Connecticut for Ninth Straight Win

New Britain, Conn. (April 18, 2019) -- Mount St. Mary's rolled to a 16-5 victory at Central Connecticut State in Northeast Conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday. The win was the ninth straight for the Mountaineers, which marks the team's longest win streak since the 2004 season when they won 10 consecutive.

The Mountaineers improved to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play with the win to remain atop the league standings. The 12-2 mark is the team's best-ever record through 14 games, and the 12 wins for the Mountaineers are tied for the third-most in a season in program history.

Jordan Butler led the way once again for the Mount with a game-high five points on four goals and one assist. Kate Kinsella notched four points on two goals and a pair of assists, and Jordan Groover registered three goals to help fuel the offense. Zoe Hurlburt (2g), Beanie Colson (1g, 1a) and Emily Davis (1g, 1a) also finished with multi-point games.

Goalie Jillian Petito tallied eight saves and a .615 save percentage to record her 12th victory of the season. Petito has now held opponents to single-digit goals in 11 of 14 games on the year.

The Mountaineers dominated the opening half of play over Central Connecticut (2-11, 0-4 NEC), scoring on 13 of their 23 shots in the stanza to jump in front by a big 13-2 margin at the halftime break. Butler scored four goals in the first half, while Hurlburt, Groover and Kinsella each netted a pair.

With the Mount holding a 5-2 lead at the midway mark of the first half, the offense exploded for the final eight goals of the frame in a span of just under 15 minutes. Groover, Butler and Hurlburt all scored two goals apiece during the dominating stretch that sent the Mountaineers into the locker rooms with the 13-2 lead. 

With a big 11-goal advantage entering the second half, the Mountaineers slowed things down and continued to control tempo. They received goals from Groover, Carly Miller and Erin Anderson in the second half, and closed out the 16-5 victory to keep the win streak going.

Mount St. Mary's held a 31-19 shot advantage and won 14 of 23 draw controls in the tilt.

The Mount closes out its road swing with a matchup at Bryant on Saturday, April 20 at 3 p.m.
