Somerset, N.J. (April 1, 2019) – Jordan Butler, Jillian Petito and Jordan Groover were all recognized by the Northeast Conference (NEC) with weekly honors following Mount St. Mary's thrilling comeback win over UC Davis on Saturday. Butler, who was named the NEC Player of the Week, and Petito, the Co-Defensive Player of the Week, each earned the honors for the second consecutive week. Groover was tabbed the Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
The trio all played pivotal roles in the team's come-from-behind victory against UC Davis that pushed the Mount's win streak to five straight. Trailing by four late in the contest, the Mount scored five goals in the final 8:18 of play to come away with the 11-10 win.
Butler finished with a game-high four goals against UC Davis as she recorded her fourth straight game with three or more scores. With the Mountaineers trailing 10-6 with under nine minutes remaining, Butler netted her third goal of the game to get the comeback started. She added another with 5:14 left, as she scored two of the Mount's five goals during the big comeback stretch.
Petito posted an 11-save performance on Saturday, marking her fifth double-digit save effort of the season. The senior net minder finished with a .524 save percentage in the victory, and held UC Davis off the board in the final nine minutes of play as the Mount scored the final five goals for the comeback win.
Groover scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in Saturday's victory. The rookie set up Butler for a goal to begin the comeback attempt, and later knotted things up at 10-10 with 4:27 remaining. Groover then registered the go-ahead goal with just 26 seconds on the clock, which proved to be the eventual game-winner. Groover finished the contest with two goals, one assist and four draw controls
The Mountaineers begin NEC play on Friday, April 5 at Saint Francis U at 1 p.m.
