Women’s Lacrosse Battles La Salle on Friday Night

The Mountaineers opened the year with wins over Presbyterian and UMBC before suffering their first loss of the season last time out against Army. In the contest with the Black Knights, the Mount was within one goal at the halftime break, but Army scored five straight to open the second half, including a pair of from Rilee Scott, to grab a commanding 10-4 lead. The Mountaineers got the next two goals of the game from Jordan Groover and Alayna Pagnotta, but the deficit was too much to overcome as Army closed out the 10-6 win. The Mount got its goals from six different players in the tilt. Pagnotta and Kate Kinsella finished with two points (1g, 1a) apiece to lead the way. Senior Jillian Petito made a season-high 10 saves in goal.

The Explorers won their season opener by a 17-4 margin over NEC member LIU Brooklyn, but have dropped their last two contests, 9-4 against Manhattan and 11-8 vs. Delaware, to fall to 1-2 overall on the year. Maddie Dachowski leads La Salle with 12 points on 10 goals and a pair of assists, while Bridget Ruskey (9g) and Brittany Stevens (3g, 5a) have also helped pace the squad on the offensive end. Molly Loughlin has started all three contests in goal, registering a .475 save percentage and 7.96 goals against average.

The Mountaineers and Explorers will meet for just the second time in series history on Friday. La Salle won the only previous meeting, posting a 12-6 victory back in 2013 on its home turf.

The Mountaineers get Saturday off before hosting California on Sunday, March 3 at 12 p.m.
