Mount Women’s Lacrosse Announces Team Captains

Emmitsburg, Md. (January 17, 2019) -- The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team has named seniors Taylor Carhart, Emily Dees, and Jillian Petito as team captains for the 2019 season.

"I'm very excited to announce Emily, Jillian and Taylor as our captains. All three players have served as captain in previous years and they have shown tremendous leadership on and off the field. We are lucky to have these three women lead our team this season," said Head Coach Lauren Schwarzmann.

Carhart enters her senior year with 64 career goals after tallying 20-plus in each of the last two seasons. During the 2018 campaign, Carhart set new career highs in all three scoring categories with 37 points on 32 goals and five assists. The attacker from Manchester, Maryland led the squad in goals and ranked second in points on the year. Carhart recorded 10 multi-point performances in 2018, including a career-best six goals against Central Connecticut.

Dees, one of the team's top defenders throughout her time with the Mountaineers, will return to action in 2019 after sitting out last year with an injury. The Baltimore native has piled up 64 ground balls, 45 draw controls, and 34 caused turnovers in 49 games over her career. Dees was named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team in her last season of action in 2017 after leading the squad in caused turnovers (13), and ranking second in ground balls (23) and third in draw controls (25).

Petito is coming off a spectacular 2018 season in which she was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Second Team honors. Petito was dominant between the pipes, registering a .563 save percentage, 8.53 goals against average, and 11.12 saves per contest in 17 starts. The net minder rounded out her season with the top save percentage in the nation, while ranking third in goals against average and seventh in saves per game. Petito made double-digit saves in 11 contests on the year, and posted a .500 save percentage or better in 13 of 17 games. Petito stopped 13 shots in an NEC Semifinal matchup at Bryant and collected NEC All-Tournament Team honors for her effort.

The Mountaineers, who finished last season at 10-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play en route to an NEC Semifinal appearance, open the 2019 campaign on February 9 at home vs. Presbyterian.
