Bowling tied for first in NEC Standings after Day One of Conference Play

Mechanicsburg, Pa. (Nov. 9, 2019) – The Mount is among three teams currently tied for first after day one of NEC competition at ABC West Lanes in Mechanicsburg, Pa. With wins over #20 nationally ranked Duquesne and St. Francis Brooklyn, the Mount went 2-1 on the day to join Long Island and Duquesne atop the leaderboard.

Sophomore Rebecca Dodson led the way for the Mount in the anchor position with a 21.65 baker frame average. Sophomore Kayla Durbala provided some muchneeded relief off the bench with a 20.33 baker frame average over 10 frames. Sophomores Danielle Milo and Ashley Santos also added to the scoring pace with baker frame averages of 18.40 and 18.10, respectively.

The Mount got a big win over the Dukes to start NEC play a perfect 1-0. The Mountaineers used small marginal victories game-by-game to build their lead over the set and remained in control throughout.

#21 Mount: 799 | #9 Fairleigh Dickinson: 951

The Mountaineers hit a minor set back against FDU for their lone loss of the day. Despite staying on the fresh after a big set against Duquesne, the team struggled to find their losses resulting in costly opens throughout the match against the Knights highest set of the day.

#21 Mount: 961 | St. Francis Brooklyn: 806

MSM finished strong with a decisive 961-806 win over the Terriers. The Mount took a huge 70-pin lead after game one with a 225 game and refused to look back.

"Anytime you have a winning day in this conference you cannot complain too much," said head coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "While we would love to have our second match back, we showed our ability to power thru adversity in match three. We have a golden opportunity tomorrow to take sole possession of first in the standings and will be sure to put our best effort forward to do so."

The Mountaineers conclude the NEC Fall meet tomorrow with matches against Long Island, Sacred Heart, and St. Francis-PA. Competition begins at 9:00 AM and can be streamed live off the team's Facebook page.
