Mount St. Mary's bowling returns to the lanes after a week away with their participation in the Virginia Union University (VUU) Invitational. The third competition of the 2019-20 season, Mount comes in with a 13-6 record following two tournaments.

SETTING THE SCENE

During the Mount Shootout, the host Mountaineers finished in seventh place with a 5-4 mark. Ranked 21st at the start of the season, the team is looking to this weekend as a chance to maintain their top 25 ranking from the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA).

Mount St. Mary's finished fourth in the 2018 edition of the VUU Invitational. After a 9-0 start across two days, they ran headlong into the Sacred Heart Pioneers in bracket play. Mount dropped the first matchup in six to the Pioneers, then after beating St. Francis Brooklyn, lost in a second match to Sacred Heart by a mere 15 pins. Danielle Milo was named to the All-Tournament Team.

FORMAT

A standard format will be adhered to for the weekend. Friday features five Baker matches and Saturday features traditional matches, both in pool play. Sunday will be bracket play with a pair of best-of-seven matches.

THE FIELD

A total of 13 teams will compete in the tournament, and all are local schools from Virginia, D.C., Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The Mount is the only Northeast Conference (NEC) school and Top 25 team in attendance, but will still see challenges from teams such as Wilmington - who finished third at The Mount Shootout - and prior opponents Howard and Chestnut Hill.

LOOKING AHEAD

This weekend is the first of three tournaments The Mount will compete in during November. Also included in the month is the first NEC Meet (Nov. 9-10) and the Stallings Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T State (Nov. 15-17).
