No. 19 Mount Bowling Reaches 70-win Mark with 8-4 weekend at James Brown Invite

Towson, Md. (February 17, 2019) – The Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team went 2-1 on the final day of the James Brown Invitational at AMF Towson Lanes. The Mountaineers collected wins over tournament host Morgan State and Chestnut Hill to finish the tournament at 8-4 and improve their overall record to 70-31.

Freshman Erin Burkart led the way for the Mount with a 19.40 baker frame average. Freshman Danielle Milo also came in big with an 18.29 baker frame average.

Morgan State: 2 (147-200-178-156-165-179)

Despite a low scoring start, the Mount managed to grind out a 4-2 victory over tournament host Morgan State. The win moved the Mountaineers up in the bracket to play the loser of Wilmington and Howard.

Wilmington: 4 (211-150-155-189-201-224)

After taking a 2-1 lead through three games, costly makeable spares down the stretch in games four and five gave Wilmington the 3-2 edge. The Wildcats would finish it off with an impressive 224 in game six.

Chestnut Hill: 2 (164-193-188-203-169-171)

The Mount rebounded nicely with a 4-2 win over Chestnut Hill. Both teams continued to win on the left lane until game six when the Mount picked up a 200-171 advantage on the right lane to secure the win.

"I am really proud of the way new faces stepped up in new positions," said Head Coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "We really needed that last win to give us momentum into NEC #2 and I believe we did just that. We are beyond excited to compete for a regular season conference championship next week."

The Mount will conclude the regular season at Berks Lanes in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania on February 22-24 at the final NEC meet. The top-five teams in conference play will advance to the NEC Championships March 22-24 at Howell Lanes in Howell, New Jersey. The Mountaineers currently lead the conference standings at a perfect 6-0.
