SOMERSET, New Jersey (Dec. 2, 2019) - Mount St. Mary's freshman guard Aryna Taylor has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Taylor was the Mount's leading scorer in this past Tuesday's (Nov. 26) 75-58 victory over Radford. Playing 22 minutes, she connected on five shots out of seven, including a trio of three pointers. Two of those triples came at the tail end of the second quarter, igniting a 18-0 run that boosted the Mountaineers to the win. The Virginian also chipped in three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
The scoring effort was her second-highest in her Mount career so far, behind a 15 point showing at Indiana. Taylor stands fourth on the team with 8.8 points per game, along with three rebounds a contest and 1.2 steals.
In addition to Taylor, junior Kendall Bresee was named an NEC Prime Performer for her 10 point, nine rebound, six assist game against the Highlanders.
This is Taylor's first weekly accolade as a college student-athlete, and both accolades are the second and third for Mount St. Mary's overall in 2019-20. Sophomore Michaela Harrison - a six-time Rookie of the Week winner as a freshman - was acknowledged as a Prime Performer last week.
Mount St. Mary's will play at home this weekend for two games, starting with Loyola Friday (Dec. 6), followed by Lehigh Sunday (Dec. 8).
