Cincinnati, Ohio (November 14, 2017) – Aaliyah Dunham and Imani Partlow combined for 28 points to lead Xavier past Mount St. Mary's University, 66-45, on Tuesday night in non-conference women's basketball action at the Cintas Center.
Katrice Dickson paced the Mount in the contest with a team-high 14 points to go along with a career-high five steals and four rebounds. Ashlee White registered eight points, while Caroline Hummell and Bridget Birkhead netted six apiece.
For the Musketeers, Dunham scored a game-high 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting and a 6-for-8 mark from the line, while Partlow added 12 points and seven rebounds. A'riana Gray just missed out on a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Mount shot just 25.4 percent as a team and 14.3 percent from long range, while Xavier hit 46.2 percent of its shots and posted a 27.3 percent mark from three-point range.
The Mountaineers (0-2) struggled to find their groove on offense in the first quarter, going just 1-of-15 from the field in the frame. Dunham scored nine of her 16 points in the quarter for the Musketeers as Xavier took a 16-2 advantage into the second.
The Mount closed the gap early in the next stanza as Dickson hit a pull-up jumper and Birkhead nailed a three from the corner, bringing the Mount within nine just over a minute into the quarter.
Later in the period, Daly Sullivan capped off a Mount run of five straight points with a layup in transition to trim the deficit to 20-14. Xavier responded with nine of the final 11 points of the frame, including four more from Dunham, to extend the lead to 29-16 at the halftime intermission.
Xavier (2-0) built its advantage up to 17 at the 6:08 mark of the third, but the Mount answered with seven straight points over the ensuing two minutes on a pair of free throws from Hummell, a three by Birkhead and a layup from Dickson, to cut the Xavier lead to 37-27.
The Musketeers ended the third frame on a 12-5 run, with Partlow registering seven points during the stretch, as they pushed their lead to 49-32 at the end of three.
Xavier outscored the Mount by a 17-13 margin in the fourth quarter while never allowing their lead to dwindle lower than 15 points as the Musketeers closed out the 66-45 victory.
The Mount returns back east for a matchup at Coppin State on November 18 at 2 p.m.
