New Britain, Conn. (April 29, 2018)—The Mount St. Mary's softball team fell in both games of a Northeast Conference doubleheader at Central Connecticut on Sunday.  The Blue Devils held the Mount off the scoreboard all day, winning the opening game, 2-0, before capturing game two, 4-0.  The Mount falls to 16-23-1 overall and 6-8 in the NEC with the losses.

GAME 1:  Central Connecticut 2, Mount St. Mary's 0

Central Connecticut scratched out single runs in the first and fifth innings, and held the Mount off the scoreboard, in a 2-0 win in the opening game of the doubleheader.

In the bottom of the first, Alexis Debrosse hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Brittany Camara with the first run of the game.

The Mount had runners on first and second with no outs in the top of the third when Kirsten Mumma was hit by a pitch and Morgan Alisauckas walked.  Central Connecticut pitcher Peyton Silverman was able to get out of the jam with a double play and a pop out.

Tori Constantin doubled with one out in the fifth, moved to third on an Emily Cronin bunt single, and scored on a Camara sacrifice fly.

Lindsay Heinze doubled to open the sixth, and Marian Ruf walked to put two runners on with no outs.  After a groundout, Shelbee Holcomb walked to load the bases.  Silverman, however, was able to escape the jam with a popout and a flyout.

Mumma and Alisauckas each singled to open the seventh to put runners on first and second with no outs.  Shea McFarland grounded out to the pitcher, putting the runners on second and third.  The Blue Devils, however, got a double play to end the game when Heinze flew out to right, and Mumma was thrown out at the plate trying to score.

Mount pitcher Amanda Berkley allowed two runs and five hits in six innings in a complete-game effort.  Holcomb went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Mountaineers.

Silverman struck out four while allowing six hits in the complete-game shutout for Central Connecticut.

Central Connecticut scored twice in the first and fourth innings en route to a 4-0 win in game two of the doubleheader.

The Blue Devils (18-26, 9-5 NEC) loaded the bases with no outs in the first, and scored the first run of the game on a Syndey Bolan sacrifice fly.  Brittany McNulla followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Kate Wade and Holcomb put together back-to-back singles with one out in the fourth, but Central Connecticut pitcher Emily Sargent retired the next two batters to end the threat.

The Blue Devils loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth, and scored a pair of runs on a Constantin single.

The Mountaineers rallied in the seventh, loading the bases on a Kaylee Stoner single, an Alisauckas base hit, and a Heinze walk.  Marian Ruf, however, grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.

Alisauckas went 2-for-4 for the Mount in the game.  Berkley started game two as well, allowing four runs (three earned) in three innings.  Katie Olson came on in relief and pitched three scoreless innings for the Mountaineers.
