MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers swept visiting Wagner on Senior Day to improve to 14-21-1 on the season. Shelbee Holcomb's walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Mount to a 2-1 win in the opening game. The Mount turned a game-ending double-play to hold on for a 10-9 victory in game two. Freshman Amanda Berkley pitched a nine-inning complete game in the Mount's 2-1 win over Wagner, holding the Seahawks to just four hits. In the second game, the Mount's four seniors (Morgan Alisauckas, Devon Hutchins, Shea McFarland and Marian Ruf) combined to go 8-for-15 at the plate with five RBI and four runs scored.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON: George Mason swept LaSalle in a three-game Atlantic 10 series over the weekend to improve to 19-24 on the season and 9-8 in the A10. The Patriots have won seven of their last eight games. The Patriots hit three home runs and scored five times in the seventh inning to rally for a 6-3 win over LaSalle in the final game of the series. Jess Curbeira leads the team with a .316 average while Brooke Sullivan is hitting .303. In the circle, Bekah Ansbro is 8-8 with a 3.13 ERA and Haellie Gordon 9-10 with a 3.83 ERA.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: George Mason holds a 33-16 lead in the all-time series with the Mountaineers. The teams split a doubleheader the last time they met on April 20, 2016, in Fairfax, Va. The two squads have split twinbills in each of their last three meetings. The Mountaineers are 6-14 all-time at home against George Mason.
LAST MEETING: The Mount and George Mason split a doubleheader on April 20, 2016. Rachel Heinze's 17th home run of the season sparked a seven-run third inning to lead the Mount to an 8-3 win in the opening game of the twinbill. TURNING TWO: The Mountaineers recorded four double plays in the sweep over Wagner on Sunday, giving the Mount 31 on the season in 36 games. The Mount leads all of NCAA Division I in double plays per game (0.86). First baseman Shea McFarland has been involved in 24 of the Mount's 31 double plays on the year while third baseman Lindsay Heinze has been in 17.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Freshman Amanda Berkley was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. Berkley was impressive last week, going 3-0 with a save and a 1.70 ERA in helping lead the Mount to a 5-1 record. Berkley is the 13th Mountaineer all-time to earn an NEC Rookie of the Week award.
