Mount Update: The Mount scored eight times in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally from an 8-0 deficit in the opening game against Bucknell. The Bison, however, scored four times in the sixth to rebound for a 12-8 win. In the nightcap, Megan Black's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh tied the score at 4-4. The game was called after seven innings due to darkness. Lindsay Heinze leads the Mountaineers with a .278 average, six home runs and 21 RBI while Katie Olson is the top pitcher with a 3-2 record and a 3.71 ERA in 51.0 innings of work.
About the Knights: Fairleigh Dickinson split a home doubleheader with Hartford on Wednesday, losing the first game, 2-1, before capturing a 13-5 win in five innings in game two. Reanna Cervantes is FDU's top hitter with a .352 average, nine doubles, two triples, two home runs and 11 RBI. Baylee Ports (4-6, 3.69 ERA), Abby England (4-5, 4.36 ERA) and Erica Johnson (2-8, 6.22 ERA) all have at least nine starts in the circle this season for FDU.
The All-Time Series: Mount St. Mary's holds a 19-13 lead in the all-time series with Fairleigh Dickinson that started in 2001. The Mount swept last year's doubleheader, posting 12-7 and 7-0 victories at home. Those wins snapped a five-game FDU win streak in the series. The Mount is 10-6 all-time on the road against FDU, but the Mount's last win at FDU was a 1-0 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader on April 13, 2014.
Turning Two: The Mount turned three double plays in the doubleheader against Bucknell on Wednesday, giving the team 24 in 28 games this season. The Mount leads all of NCAA Division I in double plays per game (0.86), ahead of Rutgers (0.83) and Pittsburgh (0.67). First baseman Shea McFarland has been part of 18 of the Mount's double plays while Linday Heinze has been in 14.
Wade, Holcomb Swinging Hot Bats: Sophomore outfielders Kate Wade and Shelbee Holcomb have been swinging the bats well of late. Wade is hitting .417 (10-for-24) over the the past eight games stretch while Holcomb is hitting .353 (6-of-17). Wade and Holcomb each had two hits in the Mount's eight-run inning against Bucknell on Wednesday.
Up Next: The Mount visits Coppin State for a doubleheader on Tuesday before returning home for Northeast Conference matchups against LIU Brooklyn (April 21) and Wagner (April 22).
