Mount Softball Hosts Robert Morris for Friday Afternoon Doubleheader

MOUNT UPDATE:  The Mount opened Northeast Conference play by falling in both ends of a doubleheader at defending champion Saint Francis U this past Saturday.  The Mount was held to just five hits in the two games.  The Mountaineers have struggled at the plate this season, posting a .201 average.  The Mount pitchers have compiled a 5.23 ERA in the 24 games.  Lindsay Heinze is the Mount's top hitter with a .313 average while leading the squad in both home runs (6) and RBI (20).  Jordan Weaver is 4-7 with a 4.37 ERA in 16 appearances (12 starts).

ABOUT THE COLONIALS:  Robert Morris enters Friday's twinbill with a 7-21 record this year.  The Colonials will be playing their first NEC games of the year.  Robert Morris was last in action on March 28, splitting a doubleheader at Penn State, losing the first game, 9-7, before earning a 5-0 win in game two.  Kaitlin Ellzy tossed a three-hitter in the 5-0 shutout in game two.  Abrie McCartney (.342, 7 2B, 14 RBI) and Natalie Higgins (.341, 8 2B, 2 HR, 13 RBI) are the top two hitters for Robert Morris while Madison Riggle is 3-7 with a 4.27 ERA in 11 starts.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES:  Robert Morris holds a 43-8 lead in the all-time series with the Mountaineers.  The Colonials have won the past three matchups, and 18 of the past 20 in the series.  The Mount's last win over Robert Morris was a 4-1 victory on April 30, 2016.  The Mountaineers are 7-17 all-time at home against the Colonials.

TURNING TWO:  The Mount has turned 19 double plays this season and is second in the nation with 0.79 double plays per game.  Rutgers leads the nation with 0.85 double plays per game.  Last year, the Mount turned 15 double plays for the year.

CHECKING THE CAREER NUMBERS:  Lindsay Heinze leads the Mount with six home runs this season, giving her 16 for her Mount career.  Heinze is now sixth all-time at the Mount with her 16 home runs, just one behind Cat Clifford, who hit 17 from 2011-14.  Heinze also has 27 career two-base hits, and she is tied for seventh all-time at the Mount with her 27 career doubles.

SCHEDULE CHANGE:  The Mount's doubleheader scheduled for Saturday against Sacred Heart has been postponed to Sunday, May 6, at 12:00 p.m. 

UP NEXT:  The Mount hosts Bucknell for a pair of games on Wednesday, April 11, at 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.  The Mount then heads to Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, April 14, for a Northeast Conference doubleheader.
