Mount Softball Closes Out Road Trip at USC Upstate and Furman

March 1, 2018--The Mount St. Mary's softball team closes out its annual spring break trip at USC Upstate and Furman on Friday and Saturday.  The Mount will face Delaware State and USC Upstate on Friday before playing a twinbill at Furman on Saturday.  The Mountaineers are coming off a doubleheader sweep at Savannah State that improved the team's record to 5-6 this season.

MOUNT UPDATE:  The Mount swept Savannah State on Wednesday, winning by the scores of 12-3 and 5-3.  Marian Ruf belted a pair of home runs in the opening game win while the Mount scored five times in the top of the first and held on for the victory in game two.  Lindsay Heinze leads the Mount with a .344 average, four doubles and 10 RBI this season.  She has hit .429 (9-for-21) over the past seven games.  Kirsten Mumma is hitting .333 (7-for-21) over the past seven games as well.  Jordan Weaver is 3-1 with a 3.82 ERA on the season while Katie Olson is 1-1 with a 2.68 ERA and a save.  Olson has been impressive during the Mount's spring break trip, going 1-0 with a 0.55 ERA and one save in five appearances.  Weaver is 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA in 23.0 IP during the trip.

ABOUT DELAWARE STATE: Delaware State enters the weekend with an 0-9 record after a 2-1 loss to Northeast Conference school Wagner in their last game.  Desiree Moreno leads the team with a.391 average and a pair of home runs while Hannah Shields is the to pitcher with an 0-4 record and a 6.46 ERA.

ABOUT USC UPSATE:  USC Upstate is a perfect 13-0 this season after posting a 9-0 win over Presbyterian in their last outing.  Christina Biggerstaff tossed a perfect game in the win over Presbyterian that saw USC Upsate score all nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Biggerstaff is 5-0 with a 0.88 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 40.0 innings of work this season.  Erin Hill is 4-0 with a 1.22 ERA as well.  Logan Morris leads the team in hitting with a .542 average with Karla Beasley providing a .474 average and team-highs of seven home runs and 15 RBI.  Krista Wright chips in a .439 average with a team-high 17 runs scored.

ABOUT FURMAN:  Furman improved to 12-3 on the season a 2-1 win over Winthrop their last time out.  Candace Johnson leads the team with a .359 average while AnnaRose Borrelli is hitting .270 with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI.  Emily DeMarte leads the pitching staff with a 6-0 record and a 0.53 ERA while Lindsey Bert is 6-2 with a 1.97 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 60.1 innings.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES:  The Mount will be facing USC Upsate and Furman for the first time in school history.  The Mountaineers hold a 14-10 lead in the all-time series with Delaware State.  The teams last met on March 22, 2014, splitting a doubleheader.  The Mount is 8-0 all-time at home against Delaware State, 4-5 on the road and 2-5 at a neutral site.

UP NEXT:  The Mount heads to Towson Tiger Clash on March 10 and 11.  The Mount will face Fairfield and Towson at the tournament.
