Washington, DC (February 2, 2019) - The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis topped Howard 6-1 on Saturday afternoon for the Mount's first win of the spring season. Alonso Garcia and Gabriel Santos led the Mountaineers on the win by picking up a doubles victory while scoring wins in the number two and three singles flights as well. Jean Armstrong, Chris Lindsey, and Evan Hine also paced the Mount with doubles and singles flight wins. With the win, Mount St. Mary's moves to 1-3 while Howard drops to 0-1 with the loss.
The Mountaineers earned the doubles point after Armstrong and Hine topped Cole Gittens and Sagar Raju 6-2 in the second flight while Lindsey and Parth Sharma clipped Kyle Martin and Devaughn Blackburn 6-4 in the number three flight. Howard's Roger Lyn and Karim Shokeir edged the Mount's Alonso Garcia and Gabriel Santos 7-6 in the No. one flight.
In singles action, the Mountaineers closed the match victory after recording wins in all of the singles flights except the number one flight. Hine clinched the match for the Mount after his win over Blackburn, 6-2, 6-2, in the sixth flight. Howard's Roger Lyn kept the Mountaineers from completing the shutout by squeaking by Parth Sharma 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the first flight for the Bison's lone point of the match.
The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team continues on the road with a match at James Madison tomorrow, February 3 at 3:00 PM.
