Blacksburg, Virginia (October 19, 2018) - Mount St. Mary's sophomore Jackson Wood advanced to the next round in the main singles draw of the ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Wood topped St. Joe's Beekman Schaeffer 6-2, 4-0 (Def) in the first round of the main singles draw. Tomorrow, in the round of 64, the Georgia native will face off against the University of Virginia's Gianni Ross who is the fourth seed in the Regional Tournament.
Parth Sharma was downed 6-1, 3-0 (Ret) by Penn State's Ben Lieb in the opening round of singles action in the main draw. Sharma retired from the match due to an injury and will not be competing in the consolation singles draw.
During doubles action, the Mountaineer duo of Wood and Sharma were edged, 8-5, by the Regional Tournament's third seeded team of Aziz Kijametovic and Francois Musitelli from Old Dominion. The Mount pairing took a 4-1 advantage before the Old Dominion duo marched back to take the match.
The tournament will continue tomorrow, October 20 and conclude Monday, October 22.
