Waynesboro, Pa. (April 7, 2018) - The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis were topped by Saint Francis Pa in conference dual-match action on Saturday evening. The Terrior men defeated the Mount 5-2 and the Terrier women also defeated the Mount 5-2. In the loss, Brandon Wortkotter climbs one win closer to the doubles flight victories all-time record.
For the men, the Mountaineers recorded the one point advantage from doubles play by winning the first and second flights. Jackson Wood and Wortkotter downed Foo-Kume and Suntar 6-4 while Jean Armstrong and Gabriel Santos defeated Morkel and Garcia 6-3.
Saint Francis secured the match win by taking five of the six singles flights. The Terriers won all but the number one singles flight, where Wood picked up his second number one flight victory on the season by topping Luma 6-2, 6-4. The Mount men fall to 6-10 on the year with a 2-2 mark in Northeast Conference (NEC) play and Saint Francis Pa jumps to 6-10 with a NEC mark of 4-1.
For the women, Saint Francis took the early point advantage from doubles competition by winning the first and second flights. Emma Blake and Megan Smith won the third flight by default for the Mount's only doubles flight win.
In singles play, the Terriers the first, third, fourth, and fifth flights to secure the overall match victory. Hannah Davis won her 10th singles flight of the year when she topped Gutierrez 6-3, 6-2 in the number two flight. Blake picked up a default win in the six flight for the Mountaineers' second point of the match. Mount St. Mary's drops to 3-13 on the year with a 1-3 mark in conference play and the Terriers move to 4-10 with a 3-1 mark in conference play on the year.
The Mount men and women are back in action Sunday, April 8 as they host exhibition matches against Harford Community College.
