Emmitsburg, Md. (June 19, 2013) – Mount St. Mary's men's tennis coach Phil Hammond completed this year's recruiting class with Peter Salomon (Haymarket, Va./Seton School) signing with the Mount to complete his transfer from Marion Military Institute, a junior college in Alabama. Salomon will begin his sophomore season at the Mount in 2013-14 with three years of eligibility remaining.
"Peter brings a lot of experience and talent to the Mount next year," Hammond said. "He has excelled in USTA junior tournament competition, and last year he had a great season competing at the junior college level."
Salomon, the younger brother of 2013 Mount graduate Mike Salomon, joins Darren Mast (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Louis Tonon (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin), who signed National Letters of Intent in the fall.
Salomon comes to the Mount following decorated high school and junior college careers, most recently playing his freshman season at Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala. in 2012-13. While at MMI, he won the USTA/ITA Southern JUCO Regional Tennis Championship doubles title and finished in the top 20 in the country among NJCAA players in the fall of 2012 in both singles and doubles. In his one season, he helped the Tigers go undefeated in conference play en route to a regional championship.
As a high school player at Seton School in Virginia, Salomon was named VISAA Division 2 Most Valuable Player in 2010 and helped lead the team to a pair of appearances in the state tournament. In the USTA junior rankings, he reached as high as No. 51 in 2010.
