Emmitsburg, Md. (September 16, 2012)-- The brothers Blake win their respective flights to cap the Mount Invitational.
In Flight A, Matthew Blake capped the weekend with the Flight A championship. He defeated Eric Ward from Morgan State 6-4, 6-4 to get to the championship match. He then defeated Bucknell's Octavio Canibe 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 to clinch the win. Sophomore Adam Salam finished in 3rd place after he downed Ward 7-5, 6-3.
In Flight B action, Mike Salomon captured 3rd place, defeating Morgan State's Jannick Tash 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday.
Flight C saw the championship come down to two Mountaineers. Freshman Austin Blake got to the final by defeating Loyola's Keishi Goto 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday. Senior Taylor Place also reached the final by beating another Greyhound in Alex Castro 6-3, 6-3. In the show down of teammates, it was the young gun Blake who prevailed. Blake downed Place 7-5, 6-0 on Sunday.
Flight D saw a lot of Mount victories. Senior Paul Chae finished in 7th place. Freshman Will Briscoe defeated Mount teammated Maris Biegel for 3rd place, winning 6-2, 6-4. There was an all Mount final in Flight D as well. Junior Justin Olexa downed freshman Anthony Adams 6-0, 6-1 to claim the victory on Sunday.
In doubles action, The tandem of Matt Blake and Taylor Place got to the final of Flight A by defeating the Ward brothers from Morgan State, 9-7. The team would lose to another pair of Bears in Park and Tash 8-4. In Flight B, sophomore Patrick McGinley teammed up with Olexa to win the consolation final 8-0 over fellow teammates Maris Biegel and Paul Chae.
The men return to action this Tuesday, September 18, when they travel to Shepherd. Match time is 3:00 PM.
