The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team downed Rider, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon to finish the fall season with a perfect 5-0 record. The Mount won five of six singles matches to seal the victory.
In doubles, the Mount took two of three matches from Rider to earn the doubles point. Jeff Lamberton and Derek Taylor teamed for an 8-5 win over Will Haight and Marc Ashed at the No. 1 spot while Favio Osorio and Thad Mostowtt earned an 8-3 win over Karl Wojciechowski and Tom Becker at No. 2 doubles. Rider's Jim Leone and Mike Straub defeated Matt Ross and Sam Walton, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles. The Mount's top two doubles tandems each had perfect 5-0 marks in dual matches this fall.
In singles play, Osorio defeated Haighth, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot while Lamberton was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Ashed at No. 2. Taylor was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Wojciechowski at No. 3 singles and Mostowtt dfeated Leon, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, at the No. 4 spot. Sophomore Sam Walton downed Becker, 4-6, 7-6, 10-3, at No. 6 singles while Rider's Straub came from behind to defeat Ross, 5-7, 6-3, 10-7, at No. 6 singles.
Lamberton, Mostowtt and Taylor each went 5-0 in dual matches this fall to lead the Mount. Taylor finished the fall with a 10-1 record in singles matches to improve to 29-9 in his career at the Mount.
