Lexington, Va. (October 6, 2018) – The Mount St. Mary's men's swimming & diving team was topped by VMI, 137-90, in the season-opening meet on Saturday afternoon. Will Twizell paced the Mountaineers with a pair of individual victories at the meet.
The Mount opened the meet strong by registering the top-two finishes in the 200 medley relay. The squad of Jonathan Mata, Twizell, Ryan Carroll and Brock Cudahy took first place in the event with a time of 1:37.47.
Twizell claimed his first individual victory of the afternoon in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:59.21 to place first. John Wilson was just behind Twizell, finishing with a time of 2:01.69 to earn a second-place finish. The duo of Twizell and Wilson also finished 1-2 in the 100 breast, with times of 58.71 and 1:01.53, respectively.
Ryan Carroll posted the Mount's other individual win on the afternoon, taking first in the 100 fly with a time of 53.92. Carroll also placed second in the 200 free (1:49.02), while Peter Jones finished second in the 50 free (22.22), and rookie Ryan Griffiths registered second place in the 100 back (54.46).
The Mount's relay squad of Cudahy, Griffiths, Mata and Peter Jones closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay for the team's top placing in the event.
The Mount returns to action on October 21 for the NJIT Invitational.
