BROOKLYN, N.Y. - St. Francis (N.Y.) defeated Mount St. Mary's 3-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Friday.
Kevin Correa posted the first two goals of the match for the Terriers (4-4-1, 1-0-0 NEC) while Gabriel Bagot dished out an assist on each of Correa's scores and Tyler Ciarhaut turned away two shots in 74:34 minutes in the winning effort.
St. Francis (N.Y.) scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back to take the league opener for both teams.
With two minutes left in the first half, the Terriers scored twice to take a 2-0 lead at halftime. Correa found the twine on a give and go from Bagot at 43:11 before Bagot and James Caicedo recorded helpers on Correa's goal one minute and 19 seconds later for a two-goal lead.
Victor Bakkioul sealed the victory with a chip shot over Steve's head at the 65:29 mark for a 3-0 lead.
Dennis got the Mountaineers on the scoreboard when he found the twine at 74:34 to trim the margin to 3-1, but St. Francis (N.Y.) came away with the victory.
It marks the first time in the last seven years that the winning team did not post a shutout in the series.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday at LIU Brooklyn. Game time is 12 p.m.
