August 8, 2019-- The 2019-20 Mount St. Mary's men's basketball schedule will feature a challenging slate that includes 14 home games as well as several marquee non-conference matchups.
"Our team has grown up a lot over the past year, and we are excited to challenge ourselves against some of the best teams in the country," said Mount St. Mary's head coach Dan Engelstad. "Having five non-conference home games is important for our team as we look forward to the homecourt advantage that Knott Arena provides. After a successful summer, we are gearing up for the start of the season, and know that these games are fast approaching."
The Mountaineers will open the season at Georgetown on Wednesday, November 6. This is the second time in three seasons that the Mount will matchup with the Hoyas with the last meeting coming on November 15, 2017. The home opener will be Saturday, November 9, against Gettysburg College. This will be the 58th all-time meeting with Gettysburg, but the first since a 112-83 Mount victory on November 21, 1986.
The Mountaineers then head on the road for six of the next seven games, beginning with a November 12 game at Washington. This is the second meeting all-time between the Mountaineers and the Huskies with the first matchup coming on November 19, 2015. The next four games on the schedule are part of the BBN Showcase which includes Kentucky, UAB, Lamar and Utah Valley. The Mount visits Lamar on Friday, November 15, with the first-ever matchup between the two schools. UAB is also a new opponent for the Mountaineers with the first-ever meeting between the teams coming on Wednesday, November 20. The Mount then heads to Kentucky on Friday, November 22, for a matchup at Rupp Arena. This will be the first time the teams have played since the Mount faced the Wildcats in the opening round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament.
The final game of the BBN Showcase for the Mount will be a home matchup with Utah Valley University on Tuesday, November 26. The Mount plays Howard for the first time since 1996 with a road matchup on Saturday, November 30, before heading to Grand Canyon on Tuesday, December 3.
The December schedule will see the Mount stay in the state of Maryland for all four games, including three at Knott Arena. The 174th edition of the Mount's rivalry with Loyola will be on Saturday, December 7, at Knott Arena. The Mountaineers hold a 100-73 lead in the all-time series that began in 1910. Mount St. Mary's will host American on December 17 before heading to Navy on December 20. The final non-conference game on the slate is a December 27 home game against Coppin State.
The 18-game Northeast Conference portion of the schedule begins with a two-game homestand against Wagner (January 2) and Long Island (January 4). The Mountaineers will play five of their first seven NEC games at home with a Winter Homecoming matchup against Bryant on January 25th capping that stretch. The Mount then heads on the road for four consecutive games before returning to Knott Arena to host longtime rival Robert Morris on February 13 and Saint Francis U on February 15. New NEC member Merrimack makes its first appearance at Knott Arena on February 23 while the Mount concludes the 2019-20 regular season at home against Fairleigh Dickinson on February 29.
