Mount St. Mary's freshman point guard Jeremy Goode (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) has been named the Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. Goode averaged 16.7 points, 6.7 assists and 2.3 steals while leading the Mount to a 2-1 record last week.
Goode shot 50.0 percent from the floor, including 5-of-10 from three-point range, and 78.6 percent at the charity stripe on the week. In the Mount's 91-80 win over Sacred Heart, Goode tallied 19 points and a career-best nine assists to pace the Mount to the victory. He followed with 11 points, eight assists and five steals in the Mount's 72-54 win over St. Francis (N.Y.). Goode closed the week with a career-high 20 points in the Mount's 71-63 loss to Central Connecticut State.
For the season, Goode is averaging 10.5 points, 5.0 assists and 1.8 steals. His 85 assists this season are already the sixth-most in a single season by a Mount freshman in school history.
It is the second time this season Goode has been named NEC Rookie of the Week. He joins Chris McGuthrie (4), Mychal Kearse (3), Landy Thompson (2), Sam Atupem (2), Greg Harris (2), and Michael Watson (2) as the only Mount players to be named NEC Rookie of the Week more than one time in a season.
The Mount returns to action when they visit St. Francis (Pa.) at DeGol Arena in Loretto, Pa., at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday night.
