Emmitsburg, Md. (April 20, 2019) - The Mount St. Mary's baseball team was topped by Wagner 8-2 in the series finale on Saturday at E.T. Straw Family Stadium. With the win, the Seahawks recorded the series victory, two games to one. Myles Nicholson led the Mount offense on the day with the only multi-hit game.
Thomas Savastio, Patrick Causa, Alex Kriss, A.J. Narcise, and Ryan Fisher added the other five hits for the Mountaineers on the day. Brenden Kennedy started for Mount St. Mary's and pitched 4.2 innings while he only allowed one earned run.
Wagner (14-21, 8-7 NEC) took control of the game, 3-0, after they plated one run in the first inning, and two more runs in the third inning. The Seahawks went on to score five more runs in the game and held the Mount (12-26, 6-9 NEC) to just two runs in the game to give them the big Northeast Conference series win. The Wagner scoring was highlighted by a Joe Silverstrone RBI single in the third, a RBI double from Shamus Connolly in the fourth, a two RBI single from Connolly in the fifth, a Tyler Sanfillippo home run in the seventh, and a RBI single from Mike Ruggiero in the ninth.
Shamus Connolly led Wagner today with a two-for-three game with three runs batted in, and a double. Tyler Sanfillippo added a solo home run for his lone hit on the day. McCae Allen and Justin Beyer combined to pitch eight dominant frames while they allowed no earned runs and struck out nine batters.
Mount St. Mary's pushed one run a crossed the board in each of the second and eighth innings for their lone runs of the game. A.J. Narcise scored the first run of the game for the Mountaineers in the bottom of the third after the catcher threw out Ryan Fisher at second and Narcise came running home to cross the plate on the throw. In the bottom of the eighth, Alex Kriss was brought home to score the second run of the game after Owen Wosleger reached base off of an error by the second baseman.
McCae Allen (4-4) tabbed the win for the Seahawks and Brenden Kennedy (2-5) picked up the loss for the Mount.
The Mountaineers welcome Bucknell for a mid-week matchup at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on Tuesday, April 23 at 3:30 PM.
