The Mount grabbed the early lead when Post doubled to left centerfield that plated Patrick Causa in the bottom of the first inning for the first run of the game.
Sacred Heart responded in the top of the third inning by scoring seven runs to make it a 7-1 game. A three RBI double from Keith Klebart started the scoring but the inning was highlighted by a two run home run to left field from Austin Markmann.
The Mountaineers drew a little closer scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning that made it 7-3. Vaughn Parker II and Dennis Stewart both crossed the plate on a fielder's choice and an error when Hostetter was up to bat.
The Pioneers added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning and eight more in the top of the seventh inning that put the game away. Elijah Brown hit a two run homer in the fifth and the scoring in the seventh was led by RBI doubles from Brown and Klebart.
Tyler Post added a run for the Mount in the bottom of the sixth with a double to left centerfield that scored Causa.
Michael Collins (1-6) picked up the loss for Mount St. Mary's while Brent Teller (2-1) picked up the win for Sacred Heart.
The two teams will play the second game of the doubleheader tomorrow, April 30 at 11 am. and that game will be followed by a nine inning game after.
