Teaneck, N.J. (April 8, 2017) - Mount St. Mary's drops doubleheader at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. The Mount squandered a 4-1 decision in the first game of the double header and 6-5 in the second game.
GAME 1: FDU 4, Mount 1
Patrick Causa and Will Enrico each had a multi-hit game while Zach Hostetter recorded the RBI but Mount St. Mary's was downed 4-1 in the first game. Josh Little pitched 1.2 innings while giving up just one hit and no runs in relief for the Mount.
The Knights plated all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth to take control of the game. Bobby Romano hit a RBI double to left field to score Mike Veit for the first run of the game. The next batter, Ryan Brennan singled to left field to score Matt McCann. FDU added two more runs in the inning that ended the inning with four runs on four hits.
Hostetter singled down the left field line that brought in Sean Kelly in the top of the sixth inning for the Mountaineers' only run of the game.
Zach Call (3-2) recorded the loss for Mount St. Mary's while Danny Demetrops (3-1) recorded the win for Fairleigh Dickinson.
GAME 2: FDU 6, Mount 5
Michael Collins pithed a sold five innings while only allowing one run and struck out five batters but Mount St. Mary's was edged 6-5 by Fairleigh Dickinson in the second game. Vaughn Parker II and Joshua Lenig each collected one RBI to lead the offense.
The Mount struck first scoring one run in the top of the second inning on a RBI double from Parker that plated Will Enrico and recorded another run in the top of the third on a throwing error that brought in Jared Urban for the early 2-0 lead.
The Mountaineers added two more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Lenig singled to center field that plated Hostetter for the first run and Tanner Sampson scored on a throwing error later in the inning.
Fairleigh Dickinson got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a single to center field that scored James Donlon and added four more in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. A sacrifice fly to right field and two singles are how the Knights took the lead.
Mount St. Mary's had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the second when Chris Wessels was plated on a balk by the pitcher to tie the game at 5.
FDU loaded the bases as well in the bottom half of the seventh inning with one out when Jorge Iza singled through the left side of the infield that plated Brennan for the walkoff victory.
Jordan Lawson (0-4) received the loss in the decision for the Mountaineers while James Sharkey (1-1) received the win for the Knights.
Mount St. Mary's falls to 4-20 and 2-7 in NEC play while Fairleigh Dickinson is 7-14 and 5-1 in NEC play. These two teams meet tomorrow, April 9 for the series finale starting at 1 pm.
