Emmitsburg, Md. (March 26, 2017) - Jared Urban, Tyler Post, and Joshua Lenig all recorded multi-hit games but Mount St. Mary's was edged by the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds 15-11 on Sunday afternoon. Jordan Lawson pitched 3.0 innings, had zero earned runs, and struck out three batters in relief for the Mountaineers.
LIU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the second. Joe Curcio and Charles Misiano scored on an error in the top of the first and Edward Modica was plated in the top of the second inning by Andrew Smith who singled up the middle. The Mount would get one of these runs back in the bottom of the second when Lenig hit a RBI single to right field that scored Zach Hostetter.
The Blackbirds added eight runs off of eight hits in the top of the third inning and three more in the top of the fourth to take command of the game 14-1. LIU would be held scoreless the next four innings but would tack on one more in the top of the ninth off of a Dom Paiotti sacrifice fly that brought in Luis Arias.
Mount St. Mary's would begin to come back, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. An Alex Kriss walk, that scored Lenig, started the scoring for the Mount while Chris Wessels and Urban were plated on a throwing error. The next six runs were unearned but were still not enough to complete the comeback.

The Mount returns to action Wednesday, March 29 for a double header against Maryland Eastern Shore with the first game at 1 pm.
