Mount St. Mary's Offense Explodes For 18 Runs In Win Against LIU Brooklyn

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 25, 2017) - Jared Urban went 3-for-5 with six RBI's to lead Mount St. Mary's past the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds 18-8 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The first four batters for Mount, Urban, Alex Kriss, Patrick Causa, and Vaughn Parker II each had multi-hit games and combined for 11 of the team's 17 RBI's.

The Mountaineer's erupted for 11 runs with two outs in the bottom of the second to take early command of the game. Urban started the scoring with a three RBI triple off the right field wall that plated Chris Wessels, Zach Hostetter, and Sean Kelly. With two runners on base, Causa doubled to left field bringing in Urban. The Mount would get three more runs before Hostetter came to the plate with the bases loaded and drilled a grand slam to left center giving the Mountaineers a 11-0 lead.

LIU got one run back in the top of the third off of a Dom Paiotti single that scored Edward Modica. The Mount would add two more runs in the bottom of the third and three more in the bottom of the fourth. Wessels hit his second career home run to right center field and Urban hit his first collegiate home run to right field right after. The Blackbirds scored twice in the top of the fifth inning cutting the deficit to 13.

Mount St. Mary's tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth when Urban hit a home run to right field but was credited with a two RBI single because he was called out for passing the runner who was on first. The Blackbirds collected two more runs in the top of the sixth inning and three in the top of the seventh but the Mountaineers offense was too much to overcome.

Zach Call (2-1) recorded the win for Mount pitching 5.0 innings while Baylor LaPointe (1-3) recorded the loss for LIU.

The final game of the series is set for tomorrow, March 26 at 1 pm.
