Starter Chad Diehl yielded no earned runs in five innings of work for Mount St. Mary's, but a five-run sixth inning from UMES propelled the Hawks to a 9-2 victory over the Mount on Wednesday. The Mountaineers scored their pair of runs in the top of the seventh as Tyler Post, who led off the frame with a walk, scored on a throwing error by the shortstop, and Patrick Causa touched the plate on a sac fly by Vaughn Parker II.

Causa, Ryan Owens and Tommy Quealy collected the hits for the Mount in the contest. The double by Owens in the top of the sixth inning extended his hit-streak to eight straight games. The senior outfielder has recorded a hit in 12 of his last 13 contests, and leads the team with a .316 batting average, 25 hits and eight doubles on the year.

Sophomore infielder Dean Lockery leads the team with a .351 average, and fellow sophomore Ryan Costello tops the squad with 13 RBI. Junior Andrew Hinckley owns the Blue Devils' best ERA at 2.84 in four starts.

The Mountaineers and Blue Devils have met 60 times in series history, with Central Connecticut holding a 35-25 advantage. Last season, the teams split the four-game series in Emmitsburg as the Mount posted 4-3 and 5-1 victories in the first and third games, respectively.

The Mount hosts Fairleigh Dickinson next weekend in a four-game NEC series at E.T. Straw Family Stadium. Game one is set for Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
