Emmitsburg, Md. (March 30, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's lost to Quinnipiac, 18-8, on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a Northeast Conference series. The teams split the four-game set.
The Bobcats took advantage of five walks in the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead. Quinnipiac added five runs in the second, one in the third, and five more in the fourth to stretch the margin to 13-0.
The Mount (6-16, 2-6 NEC) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when Zane Bard singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Sam Nott base hit. Nott now leads the Mount with 23 RBI in 22 games this year.
Mount St. Mary's added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 13-5. Andrew Clow and Tommy Quealy registered RBI singles in the inning, which was capped by Jay Knight's two-run base hit.
Quinnipiac (9-10, 4-4 NEC) answered with a Ryan Nelson three-run homer in the seventh while adding a pair of unearned runs in the eighth for an 18-5 lead.
The Mount rounded out the scoring by scoring three times in the bottom of the ninth. Tom Healy had an RBI single in the inning.
Knight went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Mount while Bard and Healy each were 2-for-5 at the plate in the loss.
Chris Migani went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Bobcats while Brian Ruditys was 2-for-5 with four runs scored in the win. Joe Thomas earned the win, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings. Kevin O'Connell pitched the final three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) to pick up a save.
The Mount returns to action April 5-7 when Monmouth visits Waldron Family Stadium for a four-game NEC series.
