Mount St. Mary's Falls to St. Bonaventure, 9-7

Port Charlotte, Fla. (February 28, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's lost to St. Bonaventure, 9-7, on Thursday in a non-conference matchup in Florida.  Mark Quaranta went 4-for-5 for the Mount at the plate in the game.

After giving up a run in the top of the first, the Mount scored three times in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. Jay Knight opened with a bunt single, stole second base, and scored on a Quaranta base hit.  Knight finished with a pair of stolen bases in the game, giving him 10 already this season. 

Sam Nott was hit by a pitch, and a Tom Healy sacrifice moved the runners up for Andrew Clow, who came through with a two-run single.

The Bonnies (2-3) regained the lead with a three-run second and added a run in the third for a 5-3 advantage.  The Mount (3-5) loaded the bases in the bottom of the third with no outs, but were held to just one run on Mo Moriarty's RBI single.

St. Bonaventure added to the lead with single runs in the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings to make the score 9-4.  The Mount rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but came up short in the 9-7 loss.

In the ninth, the Mount Zane Bard's RBI single cut the deficit to 9-5.  Sam Nott walked with the bases loaded, and a balk forced home another run, making in 9-7.  The Mount had runners on second and third with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game.

Mount St. Mary's plays Michigan at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow.
