Mount Baseball Downed by Ohio State, 13-4

Port Charlotte, Fla. (February 24, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's lost to Ohio State, 13-4, on Sunday in the second game of the Mount's seven-game Florida trip.  Sam Nott belted his third home run of the year in the loss.

Things started well for the Mount (2-3) as Mark Quaranta drew a two-out walk and Nott followed with a two-run homer to left field.  The Buckeyes answered with a run in the bottom of the frame and two more in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 advantage.

The Mountaineers evened the score in the top of the third when Nick Walker walked and moved to third on a Jay Knight base hit.  Knight then stole second base, and Walker was able to score on the play.

The Buckeys (5-2) scored a pair of runs on three doubles in the bottom of the third for a 5-3 advantage, but the Mount responded with a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-4.  Jack Schwartz singled, stole second, and scored on a Zane Bard base hit.

Ohio State, however, took control of the game with a five-run bottom of the fourth to push the lead to 10-4.  From there, the Buckeyes cruised to the win.

Tom Healy went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Mount in the loss.  Freshman Jordan Lawson started, allowing five runs in 2.1 innings to take the loss.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Monday against St. Bonaventure.
