EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 1st, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer returns to play this weekend in Farmville, Va. for a Saturday night showdown versus the Longwood Lancers.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
 
The Mountaineers are coming off a 1-1 draw Tuesday night against Radford. The Highlanders took an early lead via a header from James Barrett to notch the game's first goal in the sixth minute. The Mount didn't take long to respond as Midfielder 
Dominik Topolsky connected with 
Gavin Watt, who headed the pass back to 
Ammit Bhogal who buried the ball into the back of the net knotting things up in the 18
th minute.
 
The final shot tally favored Radford 16-10, yet the Mount owned the shots on goal category with a ratio of 5 to 4. Goalie 
Ethan Russell made three saves as forward Bobby Marstellar held pace for the Mount with four of the team's ten shots.
 
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
 
The Lancers are 1-0 on the season, the win being a home shutout versus Hampden-Sydney College, 3-0. Mason Butcher scored one for the Lancers while Emilio Segovia buried two in the net in the second half. The team commanded the shot ratio 15-6 and owned the shots on goal ratio 8-0.
 
HISTORY WITH THE LANCERS
 
Mount St. Mary's has challenged Longwood on the pitch only five times and represent a record of 1-3-1. The last match between these two clubs dates back to September 24
th, 2005 in a home loss 1-2.
