Emmitsburg, Md. (April 2nd, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's baseball loses 13-8 in another exciting game, wearing the Stags bullpen out, and mounted a comeback a bit to late to take the series. The Mountaineers are 12-14 on the season where they have Marist next for their third in-conference series matchup.
Today's game started with a quick 8-0 lead by Fairfield via consecutive base hits to the outfield. The Stags were hitting every gap perfectly making it impossible for the Mountaineers to make a play on the ball. Matt Bergevin capped of the scoring for the Stags after his solo homer to right center.
David Stirpe was first on the board for the Mount after sending a homerun over the right field fence, followed by a
Scott Seeker two run rope to right field, 8-3 through three innings.
Fairfield tacked three more runs on in the fourth, fifth, and seventh, and increased their lead to nine going into the bottom of the eighth.
A big eighth inning gave the Mountaineers hope to make yet another late game rally happen and win the game.
Jayson Kramer started things off by drawing a walk on a full count which allowed Seeker to walk across the plate.
Shane Wockley and
JT Landwehr were both able to score on wild pitches, reducing the deficit to 12-6.
Efrain Correa, Jr., battling his count, earned his first RBI of the day after hitting a grounder to first, allowing Kramer to score.
Mount St. Mary's went into the ninth inning having cut the deficit in half and
Jake Andrews on the mound. Andrews pitched well as he finished with three strikeouts while allowing only a run on one hit and a big strike out on Charlie Pagliarini to send his team into the bottom of the frame with confidence.
The Mountaineers were able to notch a run off of a beautiful
Brady Drawbaugh lined shot down the right field line which allowed
Tyler Long to score. However, the rally fell short as Fairfield was able to take the series 2-1.
