Offense Powers Baseball to Series Win Over Bonnies

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 19, 2023) – A staggering display of offense put the Mount across the double-digit threshold today as they walked away with a win, 16-9. Jayson Kramer erupted for 4-5 in the box while knocking a two run and solo shot over the right field fence, attributing to the Mountaineers' 18 total hits.

A unique play at the beginning of the game put the Bonnies ahead as Jack Putney homered on the first pitch of the game. The Mount then unleashed havoc with three homeruns of their own, two being two-run shots by Kramer and Shane Wockley, 6-1 after two.

St. Bonaventure responded with a seven run third inning started by a two run double by Christian Szablewski. A few walks and singles later the Bonnies were leading 8-6, until Jett Slepak came to relieve and was able to pitch out of the inning. The Bonnies found it difficult to score the rest of the way.

A big fourth inning for the Mount thanks to consistent batting from Kramer, David Stirpe, and Brady Drawbaugh put them on top, 11-8.

Consistency was the name of the game for the day as the Mountaineers scored in the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. Wockley's second dinger and Stirpe's shot were key contributions to a stretch of eight unanswered runs.

Scott Seeker batted .600 (3-5) on the day with an RBI and drew a walk. Wockley and Stirpe went 3-4 at the plate, recorded a combined seven RBIs, and crossed the plate a collective four times.

Freshman pitcher Slepak picked up his second win of the season after pitching 2 1/3 innings, allowed one run on one hit, and struck two batters out.
