Box Score NEWARK, Del. (February 8th, 2020) – The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse fell to Delaware 14-8 in their season opener on Saturday. Luke Frankeny tallied a team-high five goals while Brenden McCarthy had two assists in the loss. Matt DeLuca made 19 saves in net for the Blue Hens while Mike Robinson registered seven goals in the victory.
After Mike Robinson put the Blue Hens up 1-0 two minutes into the game, the Mountaineers would go on to score the next four goals to take 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Kadin Kightlinger, Luke Frankeny (2), and Jared McMahon were the goals scorers for the Mount.
The Blue Hens would pick up their play in the second quarter with a 4-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. A man-up opportunity for the Mountaineers would lead to Luke Frankeny's third goal of the game to tie it up at five. Two late goals from Jake DeMare and Mike Robinson of Delaware would give the Blue Hens a 7-5 edge at the half.
Back-to-back goals from Robinson would increase the Delaware lead to 9-5 to begin the second half. Frankeny's fourth goal of the game with 6:04 left in the third quarter had the Mountaineers back within three. Two more tallies from Delaware would give them an 11-6 lead heading into the final period of lacrosse.
Off an assist from Joe Bethke, Frankeny would put home his fifth of the game to start the fourth quarter. With 6:46 to play, Bethke would get a goal of his own off a pass from McCarthy to cut the deficit to four. The Blue Hens would notch two late goals to hold off the Mountaineers 14-8.
DeLuca earned the win in cage for Delaware with a 19-save performance. Dylan Furnback stopped 12 shots in goal for the Mount. 
Sam Stephan had a strong performance at the X, going 17-for-26 while the Mount extra-man unit went 4-for-7 on the day. 
The Mount men's lacrosse team will next play Towson on February 15th. Game time is set for 12 PM at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
