four goals and two assists to lead Mount St. Mary's past Wagner
13-4 in Northeast Conference (NEC) women's lacrosse action on
Sunday.
Semler posted a goal and an assist in the first half and then
nearly had her second natural hat trick in her last four matches in
the second half. The junior scored the first two goals of the
second half, assisted a goal and then found the twine again for the
fourth time of the afternoon to have a hand in the first four
tallies of the frame. Semler leads the team with 25 goals and seven
assists for 32 points.
Esther Rufolo (Woodstock, Md./Chapelgate Christian Academy)
added three goals and an assist for the Mount (5-7, 4-0 NEC) while

five saves in the winning effort.
Leea Sinay fueled the Seahawks (2-8, 1-2 NEC) with two goals and
an assist while Deneida McCullough posted a goal and an assist and

Mount St. Mary's used a strong offensive first half to take the
lead and never looked back to start league play 4-0 for the fifth
time in program history and the first time since the 2009
season.
After Wagner grabbed a 2-1 lead, the Mount rolled off the next
four goals and seven of the final eight tallies of the half to grab
the advantage for good.
Trailing 2-1, Semler started the surge with a free-position goal
at 10:10 to tie the game at 2. Rufolo gave the Mountaineers the
lead for good on an 8-meter tally at 11:05 before Price found the
back of the twine off an Alexis Salerno (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward
Mellville) helper at 12:30. Semler then connected with Rufolo at
13:47 to hand Mount St. Mary's a 5-2 lead.
Sinay momentarily halted the Mount run with an unassisted score
at 17:37, but the Mountaineers scored the final three goals of the
frame to go into halftime with a five-goal edge. Mary MacAdam
(Palmyra, N.J./Holy Cross) started the run with a free-position
goal at 19:42. Conlon found the twine unassisted at 27:16 before
Salerno closed the scoring in the half off a feeder from Rufolo
with 25 seconds on the clock for an 8-3 lead.
Semler took over to start the second half and nearly repeated
her natural hat trick that she had against Bryant in the NEC
opener. The junior's first two goals of the half were set up thanks
to Mount St. Mary's being awarded free-position chances after
Conlon elected not to shoot her 8-meter opportunity and pass the
ball up to Semler at 34:35 before Fife repeated the play at 38:08.
Semler then hooked up with Rufolo at 38:59 and then found the twine
unassisted at 53:11 for a 12-3 advantage.
Melanie Gorman halted Semler's dominance for the Seahawks with
an unassisted tally at 56:51 before Conlon closed the scoring in
the game unassisted with 51 second left to give Mount St. Mary's
the 13-4 victory.
Price got the scoring started for the Mount in the first half
with an 8-meter tally at 1:28. The Seahawks responded to score the
next two goals to grab a 2-1 edge. Off a defensive break,
McCullough set up Sinay at 6:07 before Sinay returned the favor to
McCullough at 8:43 for the one-goal advantage. The Mount then took
over and never looked back for its fourth-straight win.
Rufolo paced the defense with five ground balls, a draw control
and a caused turnover while Salerno added two ground balls, two
caused turnovers and two draw controls. Aly Jost (Abington, Md./Bel
Air) had a team-high four draw controls to go along with a ground
ball and a caused turnover.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Friday night to conclude a
three-game homestand against Monmouth. Game time is 7 p.m.
