Mount St. Mary's Meets Quinnipiac in NEC Quarterfinals

Mount Update: Mount St. Mary's has won three consecutive matches to improve to 7-11 on the season.  The Mount earned 5-2 wins against Morgan State and Monmouth last weekend.  It is the first three-match win streak of the season for the Mountaineers, who earned the #6 seed at the NEC Championships. 

About the Bobcats:  Quinnipiac defeated Monmouth, 4-3, last Saturday to move to 6-12 on the season.  Andrew Weeden is a team-best 17-11 in singles competition, including 8-4 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.  James Kwei is 11-11 on the year, but is 5-1 at No. 2 singles.

The All-Time Series with Quinnipiac:  Quinnipiac holds a 7-2 lead in the all-time series with the Mount, winning the past seven matches.  The Bobcats posted a 4-0 win over the Mount in the 2009 NEC Quarterfinals.  The Mount is 1-3 all-time against Quinnipiac in the NEC Championships, including a 4-2 loss in the 2006 semifinals and a 4-1 loss in the 2005 NEC Championship match.

NEWS AND NOTES...

Mount St. Mary's and the Northeast Conference Tournament:  Since the NEC Championships moved to a team-flighted even in 1999, the Mountaineers have 4-12 record in the championship side of the bracket.  The Mount advanced to the 2005 NEC Championship match, falling to Quinnipiac, 4-1.  The Mount has lost in the NEC Quarterfinals in each of the past four seasons. 

Planting a Seed:  The Mount is the No. 6 seed in this year's Northeast Conference Tournament for the third consecutive season.  Since moving to a team-flighted event in 1999, the Mount has been the No. 2 seed once (2005), the No. 3 seed three times (2003, 2004, 2006), the No. 5 seed twice (2007, 2010), the No. 6 seed four times (1999, 2008, 2009, 2011) and the No. 10 seed three times (2000, 2001, 2002).

One-Two Punch:  Sophomores Matthew Blake and Mike Salomon play at No.1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, for the Mount this season.  The duo has combined for a career record of 59-30 over their first two seasons.  Blake, who is 11-9 in singles play this year, is 28-12 in his Mount career.  Salomon, who is 14-9 in singles action, has improved his career mark to 31-18.

Career Numbers:  Senior Andrew Marinucci is 39-52 in his Mount career in doubles competition.  His 39 individual doubles wins are tied for seventh on the Mount's all-time list.

Head Coach Phil Hammond:  Head coach Phil Hammond is in his seventh season at the helm of the Mount's men's tennis program.  Hammond guided the Mount to the NEC championship match in 2005 and double figures in wins three times.  His career record in dual matches at the Mount is 62-85.
