Bethlehem, Pa. (September 29, 2017)—The Mount St. Mary's men's cross country team finished in sixth place among the NCAA Division I schools in the Brown Race at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Friday afternoon. The women's team earned a 12th place finish in the women's Brown Race. Individually, Nicolas Fransham was the Mount's top performer for the men while Ashleigh Kocher was the women's top finisher.
The Mount men's team finished in sixth place among the 18 NCAA Division I schools in the Brown race. Buffalo took home first place (59 points), followed by George Washington (77), Siena (79), Marist (93), St. Joseph's (Pa.) (144), Mount (191), Columbia (208), Holy Cross (263), Rider (280), Lafayette (310), VCU (311), Elon (319), Colgate (360), Bryant (374), Hofstra (379), Hartford (384), Loyola (425) and Fairfield (432).
Fransham finished the eight-kilometer course with a time of 24:59 to finish in sixth place overall among the 132 Division I runners in the field. Chris Evans finished 21st overall with a mark of 25:36 while Benjamin Finnigan was 48th with a time of 26:13. Mitchel Wileczek was 51st with a time of 26:17 with Isaac Kole rounding out the top five by finishing 65th with a mark of 26:33.
On the women's side, Kocher paced the Mount, finishing 49th in the field of 128 runner with a time of 23:41 for the six-kilometer course. Clarke Hooper finished right behind Kocher, placing 50th with a time of 23:44. Alexandra Kay was 54th with a mark of 23:59, Adria Pirozzi 71st with a time of 24:43 and Destiny Boone 90th with a time of 25:41 to round out the Mountaineers top five.
In the team scoring, Columbia finished first (42), followed by George Washington (64), Siena (106), Lafayette (120), Loyola (157), VCU (176), Bryant (209), Colgate (223), Hofstra (246), Fairfield (273), Rider (277), the Mount (314), St. Joseph's (Pa.) (341), Hartford (344), Niagara (395) and St. Francis Brooklyn (491).
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, October 14, at the Gettysburg Invitational.
