Newark, Del--Sophomore Tommy Gruschow finished in second place to pace the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's cross country teams at the Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware on Friday.
Gruschow finished the eight-kilometer course in second place with a time of 25:25.56, followed by Chris Swisko, who was fifth with a mark of 26:06.26. Chris Jewell was 12th with a mark of 26:48.74, with Sean Caskey in 13th with a time of 26:49.24. Jesse Langton rounded out the top five with a time of 27:23.28, finishing 17th.
Howard won the event, followed by West Chester and the Mount.
McKenzie Doyle paced the Mount women's team by finishing 15th overall with a time of 22:44.79 for the six-kilometer course. Megan Schott finished right behind Doyle, placing 17th with a time of 22:47.16. Megan Kinsella was the Mount's third-fastest finisher with a time of 23:205.09, good for 23rd overall. Medeline Rico (35th, 23:45.23) and Constance Kniesler (52nd, 25:07.39) rounded out the top five.
Delaware took first place, followed by Maryland, George Mason, West Chester and the Mount.
The Mount is back in action on Saturday, October 27, at the Northeast Conference Championships.
